AutoCal™ System, GLM™ and GLM.SE™ Software
The proprietary GLM™, GLM.SE™ and AutoCal™ technologies of Genelec DSP Monitoring Systems greatly expand the loudspeaker alignment toolset to reach greater monitoring accuracy and flexibility. The solid acoustic foundations of the 8000 MDE™ and 7000 LSE™ Series products have been essential to develop the 8200, 7200, and SE™ DSP monitoring systems. To learn more, click here!
Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™ (MDE™)
In order to improve the flatness of the frequency response and the power response, Genelec have designed a highly innovative enclosure optimized to match the properties of the loudspeaker drivers, featuring rounded edges, and gently curved front and sides. In addition to achieving an unsurpassed flatness of the frequency response, the enclosure having minimum diffractions yields superb sound stage imaging qualities. To learn more, see our MDE Animation
Reflex Port Design
To increase the woofer's low frequency extension and SPL capacity, Genelec have designed an ingenious flow optimized reflex port. The long, curved tube maximizes airflow so deep bass can be reproduced without compression. The tube terminates with a wide flare, minimizing port noises and providing excellent bass articulation. 6.1 Bass Management System
In stereo reproduction, signals from 20 Hz to 20 kHz need to be replayed. Multi-way speaker systems will reproduce that bandwidth evenly. With multi- channel audio, professional and consumer audio systems must be able to reproduce all frequencies from each channel. Main speakers, subwoofers and crossovers should work together to provide a flat response for each channel. To learn more, see our Bass Management Animation
Laminar Spiral Enclosure™ Technology
All LSE™ series subwoofers feature the innovative Genelec Laminar Spiral Enclosure™ (LSE™) bass reflex cabinet. It provides excellent laminar flow characteristics with minimal turbulence noise and enables an optimal packing of a very long reflex tube into a small space. The learnings from the LSE™ Technology are also utilized in the Reflex Port design of the 8000 series.
Directivity Control Waveguide™ Technology
Genelec’s revolutionary Directivity Control Waveguide™ (DCW™) technology first developed in early 80’s can greatly improve the performance of a direct- radiating multi-way loudspeaker. The DCW™ waveguide is designed to match the frequency response and directivity characteristics of the drivers in the loudspeaker. This results in an excellent flatness of the overall frequency response for on and off-axis listening positions.

Placing Loudspeakers correctly in Control Rooms
Probably the majority of the audible problems in monitoring are due to the effects of the room on the sound radiated by the loudspeaker. Therefore, the placement of the loudspeaker in a room is critical. Since loudspeakers and subwoofer radiate very long wavelengths at low frequencies, the various cancellation effects and standing waves in the room will affect the loudspeaker/subwoofer performance. If you are operating monitors away from the walls, in the near field, this tutorial will give you guidelines on how to set up and operate your system to ensure best sonic quality. Additional tutorial links are also featured here, covering in more depth various issues such as:
- Loudspeaker radiation space
- Wall behind the loudspeaker cancellation
- Free-standing loudspeakers placement recommendations
- Free-standing loudspeakers with subwoofer placement recommendations
Flush mounting to Wall
For high quality monitoring speakers are usually flush mounted into the monitor wall. Read why this is advantageous. Also, get the hottest tips on how to build the monitor wall and install the speakers correctly.
Room Response Controls
Genelec active systems have controls to allow you to optimize the audio quality in your listening room. We give guidelines on how to find the best settings for these room response controls.
Use with Digital Sources
Digital mixing consoles have usually internal DA converters. We give you guidelines on how to use Genelec active monitors with digital mixing consoles to get the best audio quality out of your digital system.
