For more than 25 years, Audio One Founder and CEO David Frangioni has turned to Genelec active speaker technology for high-end home theater and media room installations, as well as professional recording studios.

Genelec has today announced that its 6010A/5040A System, consisting of the 6010A Bi-Amplified Active Monitor and 5040A Active Subwoofer, has been nominated for outstanding technical achievement in the category of Studio Monitor Technology.

The announcement was made by Will Eggleston, Genelec U.S. Marketing Director.

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology for three decades, offers home theater and custom installers the most advanced active speaker solutions with its line of discreet, low-profile models. Recently, Environmental Technology Center, a Boston-based design, consulting, install and product sales company, employed several Genelec Custom Installation home theater speakers in a high-end residential media room project in the Boston suburb of Wellesley.

Music Mix Mobile, a full-service remote facilities company combining the talents of award-winning production professionals and state-of-the-art audio solutions, is a collective consisting of industry veterans Joel Singer, John Harris, Jay Vicari and Mitch Maketansky. Recently, Music Mix Mobile was charged with capturing the audio for the live performances at Nashville’s CMA Music Fest 2009. In the company’s M3 truck, Music Mixer John Harris and Engineer-in-Charge (EIC) Joel Singer chose Genelec 8250A Bi-Amplified Active DSP Monitors as their reference speakers along with a 7260A subwoofer to handle the bass management.

Not many home theatres have sliding walls on both sides. In fact, it’s perfectly possible that this one, in the well-heeled Florida neighbourhood of Boca Raton, is the only room of its kind anywhere.
Of course, home theatres aren’t supposed to have sliding walls but, as Brett Virgo, CEO of installer Sono Imaging, explains, this room serves more than purpose: “The space the cinema now occupies was formerly a rear-facing patio – a typical Florida feature – with a sliding door and a beautiful view out over the backyard."

At the 2009 Electronic House Expo, Michael Chafee (FL Rep) set up a full 7.1 Genelec Surround system with HT315A’s, HT210B’s, an HTS6 and a pair of HTS4B’s. During the course of the show, attendees and press had an opportunity to experience a large Genelec system, many for the first time. As you might expect, the system caused quite a stir at the show.

The idea of a ‘room within a room’ may have its roots in music recording studios, but it is a sign of the times that it is becoming increasingly associated with home theatre.

A case in point can be found in the exclusive, gated island community of Bal Harbor, just north of Miami Beach. Here, installation firm Showtime Audio & Video has built a no-compromise private cinema as part of a fully integrated ‘whole house’ AV project in an impressive waterfront residence.

For applications centered around computers, such as a producer approving mixes from his office or an engineer mixing on a laptop, Genelec has addressed the needs of this class of professional listener with a no-compromise system designed specifically for computer interface and desktop monitoring. The diminutive 6010A loudspeaker follows the form and function of Genelec’s 8000 series in a sub-compact format. When married with the companion 5040A subwoofer, the result is a full bandwidth, full fidelity system for stereo and surround monitoring, tailored to the application. - Frank Wells reports.

At the 51st Annual Grammy® Awards Show, telecast on CBS from L.A.’s Staples Center on the evening of Sunday, February 8th, XM Productions/Effanel Music employed Genelec 8200 Series Active DSP Monitoring Systems. Genelec DSP systems consisting of 8250A and 8240A active monitors, along with the 7260A subwoofer, were used in XM Productions/Effanel Music’s L7 truck for the live music mix, as well as in the mirrored system in the Nova offline remix booth.

The winners of the Fennia Prize 2009 competition were announced yesterday 19.2.2009 in an awards ceremony held at the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki. The Fennia Prize 2009 Grand Prix was given to Genelec Oy for the design of the Genelec 5040A active subwoofer.

Just because a home has insufficient space for a dedicated home theatre, doesn’t mean to say that excellent cinema sound quality is out of the question.

At a spacious penthouse apartment in the exclusive Miami suburb of Key Biscayne, audio consultant Michael Chafee has designed a home-cinema setup that largely disappears from view when not in use – yet lacks for nothing in dynamics, power, or imaging.
