Directivity Control Waveguide™ Technology

Genelec’s revolutionary Directivity Control Waveguide™ (DCW™) technology first developed in early 80’s can greatly improve the performance of a direct- radiating multi-way loudspeaker. The DCW™ waveguide is designed to match the frequency response and directivity characteristics of the drivers in the loudspeaker. This results in an excellent flatness of the overall frequency response for on and off-axis listening positions.

Active vs Passive Loudspeaker Design

When a passive loudspeaker is driven the electrical interaction of the drivers and the non-linearity in the crossover circuitry can cause undesired electrical changes in the loudspeaker performance. The active design approach includes the combined effect of the crossover filter response, power amplifier responses and driver responses in a loudspeaker enclosure. Placing Loudspeakers correctly in Rooms

Probably the majority of the audible problems in custom installations are due to the effects of the room on the sound radiated by the loudspeaker. Therefore, the placement of the loudspeaker in a room is critical. Since loudspeakers and subwoofer radiate very long wavelengths at low frequencies, the various cancellation effects and standing waves in the room will affect the loudspeaker/subwoofer performance.

If you are operating loudspeakerss away from the walls, this tutorial will give you guidelines on how to set up and operate your system to ensure best sonic quality. Additional tutorial links are also featured here, covering in more depth various issues such as:
  • Loudspeaker radiation space
  • Wall behind the loudspeaker cancellation

  • Free-standing loudspeakers with subwoofer placement recommendations

Flush mounting to Wall

For high quality custom installations loudspeakers are usually flush mounted into a hard wall. Read why this is advantageous. Also, get the hottest tips on how to build the front wall and install the loudspeakers correctly.

Room Response Controls

Genelec active speaker systems have controls to allow you to optimize the audio quality in your listening room. We give guidelines on how to find the best settings for these room response controls.
